A popular topic among accountants these days is how to meet staffing shortages and cope with excessive workload. Since January of 2015 , there have been numerous stories in online publications about the short supply up and down the country (Economia: talent shortage hurting accountants), and how this shortage could hamper growth in the accountancy sector (AccountancyLive: Staff shortages could hamper growth in accountancy). To address this shortage, and to make sure we have a steady supply of talented accountants as we take on more clients, we launched the QXAS Training Academy 9 months ago. Since then we’ve redesigned the area and transformed it into a modern space with dual screens, perfect for training small groups of accountants ( we actually shared a photo unveiling the look of the academy on Twitter on September 16). About QXAS Training Academy The redesigned QXAS Training Academy is where we conduct our staff training including refresher training for existing staff and a 3-phase training program for new recruits which includes: • accounting terminology • document identification • working papers • bookkeeping • compiling from incomplete records • accounts finalisation • software training • business and personal tax training Who has received the training so far? We’ve signed-up more than 20 trainee accountants into the training program since February this year. Our new starters are receiving instruction from our Head of Training, Jay Joshi. But they are not the only ones who are taking advantage of this – the academy is also open to existing staff who are being taken through a CPD program, the contents of which include: CCH e-CPD online training, tax update on the Tax TV, Bloomsbury online subscriptions and classroom instruction. Eleven trainees have now completed the full program and are now paired with experienced accountants on the Operations floor so they can go through a 3-month long, on-job training program before we are confident that they are competent to work on client’s live data. Eleven other trainees are expected to move to the Operations floor by December 2015 and we’re already planning the next intake for the Academy in early 2016.
