CASE STUDY

How A UK Accounting Firm Scaled Personal Tax Delivery to 1,100+ Returns with QX

Client Overview:

The client is an ACCA-accredited accountancy firm headquartered in Guildford, with a network of offices across Surrey, Hampshire, Sussex, Kent, London, Buckinghamshire, and Berkshire. Established in 2011, they provide accounting and tax services to small businesses, contractors, and individuals, combining local, personalised support with cloud-based accounting technology and processes.

The client partnered with QX in 2022 for personal tax preparation support. Over the course of the partnership, QX became an increasingly integrated extension of the firm’s tax delivery team, helping provide the capacity required to manage growing personal tax volumes efficiently.

The Challenge:

As personal tax volumes grew, the client needed additional delivery capacity without compromising the quality and control already built into its operation.

The firm had previous experience of outsourcing and was looking for a partner that could provide dependable support as demand increased. The requirement was not simply additional capacity. The outsourcing model needed to fit seamlessly into the firm’s established workflows, consistently deliver to expected quality standards, and provide the flexibility to manage a growing volume of returns.

The firm also wanted to maintain its proactive approach to tax season. Work begins early in the year, often from April onwards, with the aim of completing the majority of returns well ahead of the January deadline.

QX therefore needed to become more than an external provider. It needed to operate as an extension of the firm’s existing tax team.

  • Scaled from approximately 700 returns during the initial engagement to 1,100+ returns delivered
  • QX now supports approximately 90–95% of the branch’s personal tax portfolio
  • Successfully supported expected output levels of approximately 25–30 returns per week
  • Integrated directly into the firm’s existing digital workflows and processes
  • Expanded an initial bookkeeping relationship into comprehensive personal tax support

How We Helped:

Rather than changing the firm’s established way of working, QX built its delivery model around it. The firm’s UK-based client managers retained ownership of client relationships, while QX became the delivery engine behind the scenes, providing the capacity to handle growing personal tax volumes.

A dedicated QX team of managers, reviewers and processors works within the client’s existing workflow, supporting the tax process from preparation through to filing.

End-to-end personal tax support

QX supports the firm across:

One workflow, one integrated team

Returns, queries, reviews, and status updates are managed digitally through the firm’s own workflow platform. This means QX operates inside the firm’s established processes rather than alongside them, helping work move efficiently between the UK and offshore teams while maintaining visibility and control.
